FISH-Y FRIDAYS!

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the world's largest serving of fish n' chips, as of 2011, was at a pub in West Witton, North Yorkshire named Wensleydale Heifer. The serving was a whopping 101lb (45kg) of fish and chips using a 40lb fillet of prime halibut in its Black Sheep beer batter, 60lbs of handcut chips and a vat of mushy peas.

After it was adjudicated by the Guinness Book of World Records, it was served to the crowd in the park. Wooow!

HAMBURG, GERMANY made the first hamburgers, hence the word "ham burger". This doesn't solve the mystery though of who really invented hamburgers.

Some say the Tartars, a group of nomadic people who tenderized their beef by placing it under a horse's saddle--flattening it into a patty. Others say German immigrants who traveled to the United States during the 19th century bringing with them their favorite meal called Hamburg Style Beef-- a raw chopped, piece of beef. Some argue Americans placed the first cooked beef patty on a roll at the St. Louis World's Fair in 1921.

But whoever really invented the hamburgers, one thing is for sure...

Popeye's best friend and hamburger lover J. Wellington Wimpy. Though often lacking in cash, he'll "gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today." Wimpy was the first of many comic characters to fall sway to the power of the hamburger.

Happy Chinese New Year! Welcoming the Year of The Water Dragon

By midnight tonight, many if not all, will be celebrating the Chinese New Year, so here goes...

Did you know that the words Kung Hei Fat Choi (Gung Hei Fat Choi) does not translate to a "Happy Chinese New Year!" greeting in English? It literally means “Congratulations and may prosperity be with you!”

If you want the literal translation, say Xin Nian Kuai Le, which means "New Year Happy". The works broken down are Xin for new, Nian for year, and Kuai Le for happy.

Chinese Traditions

Some of the famous Chinese traditions that even Pinoys practice already...

General Cleaning of the House/ "Sweeping"
Sweeping is symbolic for wiping away bad luck or misfortune and making way for the good luck being brought by the new year.

Hong Bao
The giving of Hong Bao, especially to the young ones, simply means the transmission of good fortune. The packet is colored red beacuse that color signifies life, happiness and good luck in Chinese.

Note: It is rude to open the Hong Bao you received in front of the giver.

The Feast
Serving fish for abundance, noodles for long life, and anything round like fruits/other types of food for prosperity and good fortune over New Year's Eve, while the whole family dines together.
