A few more days and the world will be tuning in to the prestigious awards night that is now on its 84th edition, THE ACADEMY AWARDS or better known as "The Oscars".

The line up for Best Picture nominees are really of great caliber, with a cast comprised of the biggest Hollywood stars. One couldn't help but wonder what film will be the big winner for this year's most coveted award in the movie industry. Here's a list of the awesome film nominees...

The Artist
Outside a movie premiere, enthusiastic fan Peppy Miller literally bumps into the swashbuckling hero of the silent film, George Valentin. The star reacts graciously and Peppy plants a kiss on his cheek as they are surrounded by photographers. The headlines demand: "Who's That Girl?" and Peppy is inspired to audition for a dancing bit-part at the studio. However as Peppy slowly rises through the industry, the introduction of talking-pictures turns Valentin's world upside-down. Written by L. Hamre

The Descendants

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
A nine-year-old amateur inventor, Francophile, and pacifist searches New York City for the lock that matches a mysterious key left behind by his father, who died in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

The Help
Set in Mississippi during the 1960s, Skeeter (Stone) is a southern society girl who returns from college determined to become a writer, but turns her friends' lives -- and a Mississippi town -- upside down when she decides to interview the black women who have spent their lives taking care of prominent southern families. Aibileen (Davis), Skeeter's best friend's housekeeper, is the first to open up -- to the dismay of her friends in the tight-knit black community. Despite Skeeter's life-long friendships hanging in the balance, she and Aibileen continue their collaboration and soon more women come forward to tell their stories -- and as it turns out, they have a lot to say. Along the way, unlikely friendships are forged and a new sisterhood emerges, but not before everyone in town has a thing or two to say themselves when they become unwittingly -- and unwillingly -- caught up in the changing times. Hugo
Hugo is an orphan boy living in the walls of a train station in the 1930s in Paris. He fixes clocks and other gadgets as he learned to from his father and uncle. The only thing that he has left that connects him to his father is an automaton that doesn't work; Hugo has to find its heart-shaped key. On his adventures, he meets with a cranky old man who works in the train station and his adventure-seeking god-daughter. Hugo finds that they have a surprising connection to his father and the automaton, and as he discovers it, the old man starts remembering his past and his significance to the world of film-making. Midnight in Paris
Gil and Inez travel to Paris as a tag-along vacation on her parents' business trip. Gil is a successful Hollywood writer but is struggling on his first novel. He falls in love with the city and thinks they should move there after they get married, but Inez does not share his romantic notions of the city or the idea that the 1920s was the golden age. When Inez goes off dancing with her friends, Gil takes a walk at midnight and discovers what could be the ultimate source of inspiration for writing. Gil's daily walks at midnight in Paris could take him closer to the heart of the city but further from the woman he's about to marry. Written by napierslogs

VALENTINE's DAY with TATERS!

Happy Hearts Day!

What have you got in store today for your loved ones?

I'm sure some of you would love to set the mood for a great Valentine's date and what better way to do that than to watch a romantic movie?

The Vow starring Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams is the story of "a woman who gets into a car accident and falls into a coma. She wakes up with severe memory loss, and her husband must work to revive their love."

If you're into Pinoy movies, why not see Unofficially Yours featuring John Lloyd Cruz & Angel Locsin? "Two friends have a one night stand. One of them falls in love. The other doesn't believe in relationships. The two struggle with the fallout of their night of passion as their differing philosophies come face to face."

If lovey-dovey movies aren't your thing, you can check out Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo? This mystery/suspense movie is about  "a disgraced journalist who teams up with a brilliant but damaged hacker to solve a disappearance that took place decades ago. Their investigation reveals the ugly past of a family, and an even uglier present."

(movie synopsis source: clickthecity.com)

Which one will you and your date be watching today?
